This project is the result of a barrel/stock combo that I bought from the Harrisons at the Fall Frolic in Sharonville last year. I saw the wood and couldn’t wait to make something with it. It’s got a 62 cal tapered and rifled barrel from Richard Smith. I used a Davis Colonial lock. I wanted a big lock for this project and that particular lock seemed to fit the bill. Iron mounts. I went with iron for no particular reason other than the parts were laying in the drawer and needed to be used. I debated carving this one but felt that there would be an unnecessary tug of war between my carving and this obviously beautiful piece of wood. The rifle is light. I’m guessing 8 1/2 lbs.
I must take my hat off to Randall Cantrall and Gary Tucker for their contributions here.
I’ll have this gun at the show at lake Cumberland this weekend and will have it available for adoption.
Enjoy!

Cool gun. Mighty lot of knuckles on that patchbox! I like the box a lot.
-
I like it Wayne. Fine work
-
Dang, you have been hanging out with Brooks too much. I would have to polish up the metal if it were mine.
Great piece of wood.
You know it could be the Creedmoor Cabin rifle. We dont have a gun hanging over the entry way like a proper cabin should.
I would consider adding the Stoner Creek addition.

Dang Stoner, that there is one pretty rifle... Just because that's one beautiful stock. I would have polished the metal.
Nice work indeed... Oldtravler

Nifty! Polishing metal is highly over rated.

Looks great Wayne I wouldn't change a thing!
-
A peach Wayne. That big lock and trigger guard go together like peas and carrots....
-
That's one good looking rifle, Wayne. You fellows did a great job.

Fabulous piece of wood

Nice one Wayne. Since you retired you've been a gun making machine.
-
Beeeyutiful work Wayne, nicely done.
-
Beautiful. What is the LOP and the barrel length?

13 1/2” tp, 42” barrel

She's a beauty! I agree, that gorgeous stick didn't need any carving! I'll bet you won't have it long.

Brian, I work like a fool on these this until I can’t stand to see another one, then it’s time to put the garden out again.
Lather-rinse-repeat.
I just hope that I have the desire and health to do this as long as several of our more seasoned members do.

How did I miss this yesterday, what a Rifle, that PB looks just right like it sits, "Bling" is not all that it's cranked up to be.

Awesome rifle Wayne. Beautiful wood.

Nice work, Wayne..., and a really impressive piece of wood!

A .62 should smack a gong from a long ways off, and no chance of not getting the points from not being able to hear the “PING!”
I quite enjoy the patch box and patina’d iron mountings about the piece. Fantastic!

Wayne I keep going back an looking at her. She is perfect the way she is. Someone's going to be one happy muzzleloader.

Thanks Mike!
I got it out again today. The lock and triggers are butter smooth. It’s going to be a shooter.
-
Wayne,
You’ve been a busy guy.
Nice job, that’s a good looker.

Wow, I like it a lot Wayne. What a piece of wood! I miss my .62 rifle. It was a deer slayer. I liked it for splitting the ball on axe edge to break two pigeons shot. You did great job on that one.
-
That's a fine rifle. I'd like it even without the curl. Glad to see someone use that lock. I've been debating using that instead of an early ketland on a build and am definitely going with the Davis now.

Was this beautiful creation adopted?
-
Not yet. I’m kinda hoping it’s like that puppy that I brought home 40+ years ago and was just going to keep it until I found a better home for it. You know the rest of the story. Second best dog I ever had.......
-
2 puppies are better than 1. Good call. U would regret it.
-
Is that like this, Wayne?

Yep. Kinda sure enough is.
-
That puppy is one very fine looking little feller! I'd be tempted to take him for a walk every single day.

I need to check this forum more often, I don’t know how I missed this one! Nice work, Wayne, and what a piece of wood! Gorgeous rifle, and I bet she’s a shooter, too.
