Title: Cerrosafe and measurements
Post by: frenchman on March 25, 2021, 02:39:36 AM
Just did the imprint, works perfectly, very happy will be doing all of them soon.
Here is the question.
The bore dead on .540
Groves .568-.569
Ball .530
I usually use .018 patches with my other .54
But here i have a big difference can’t use a .030 patch it would be much to tight, will the .018 patche still cover enough of the gazes.

Hi Denis - if you use the components at hand, you barely go to the bottom of the grooves with very little compression.
If you went to a .535" ball, the fit will be better.
I personally would be using a .021" denim (10 ounce) with a .535" ball in a flat bottomed rifled barrel.
Your round grooves are 4 to 5 thou deeper than that, which is common for a Rice bl. & should be using a thicker patch.
