Title: NMLRA Young Adults (18-30) Gunbuilding Class

Looking forward to this one! Been talking with more and more people who want to learn how to build guns. Many have built a kit or two (or more) and are ready to take that next step. We'll be building guns using my own stock patterns I've developed over time in the spirit of our early iron mounted guns like the Thomas Tileston and Old Holston rifles. Everybody starts with a barrel inlet in a blank and I'll be forging a set of mounts for each student to use.

Like Mike Brooks' class I am going to be working with a bit smaller of a group than I usually do. I have already spoken with two who signed up and don't know at the moment if the MMLRA has registered others. I'm happy to answer questions here or you can contact the NMLRA for info.

Young interest is so important if this art is to continue. I hope this is only the beginning of a great thing, Ian.

Don’t think I could swing it now, but I’d really love to go to this class! Hopefully in the future.

Thanks guys - have heard from a few who wanted to come but are more than a little over 30 (like me) - FYI there is another post on here where Mike Brooks is teaching a "build from a blank" class at the same facility !

Hope this doesn't end up like the Little League age scandals ;)

Ian,

I am supposed to be in Mike's class in October, but may have a conflict with dates (depending on when they announce the class).

Being a 25 year old builder, are there spots still open in this class?

Trying to make sure I get into one class in this summer/fall.

Cheers,

Allen

Hey Allen - as far as I am aware there is still a spot available.  I think there's been a bit of restructuring going on with the NMLRA office and I'm not sure who is currently handling registration, but if you call them somebody will probably point you in the right direction!

Thanks, Ian. As I said, trying to figure out which class will work with my schedule, have a space in Mike and Wayne’s for now and can shift around if the dates don’t work.

What kind of profiles do you provide to students to choose?

Thanks!
Allen

Allen we will be working with one or two of my own profiles which I developed from studying guns of the colonial / rev war period. I'll be supplying a forged buttplate and guard.

Just wanted to post a heads up - my class had erroneously been marked as full on the NMLRA website and I still have a spot available.

Great to see a push toward younger folk.  Thank you for that type of program.  I'm 23 but look like I'm 68,  may I attend?  Only kidding I'm 68 and wish I was 23 again.  I hope a couple or more students become masters.  Thanks again!
