I thought it might be an interesting thread to establish the maximum barrel lengths our gifted contemporary barrel makers are capable of manufacturing. Im hoping you guys can help me with some of these because I have never used a barrel from Ben Coogle for example. I will apologize to all makers in advance if I get something wrong, I base my answers upon my previous purchases from that specific maker and input from ALR members. I reserve the right to be wrong/and or corrected.
Charles Burton - maximum length 48
Bobby Hoyt - at least 60, unsure of maximum
Rice - maximum length 48
Long Hammock - unsure
Rayl - at least 50
Ben Coogle - at least 72 (per Mike Brooks)
Green Mountain - 42?
Colerain - 44 (per their website)
Larry Horrigan - reportedly 60
I have undoubtedly missed some makers and obviously need assistance from the rank and file to help fill holes and make corrections and/or constructive criticisms.
Respectfully,
Ez

I have a rayl barrel here that is 50". I had Coogle make me a "72 barrel. I have had Hoyt make me 60" barrels.

For those of us who don't have this information, would you (anyone) please put full contact information for all those makers other than Colerain, & Rice. Perhaps, make this a STICKY?

You should add Ken Netting (?)
to this list too. Unfortunately I don't have his info. Oldtravler

We need to clarify rifled vs smooth bore. I had a barrel rifled by a guy in Ohio last name of Kelly that made me a 51" tapered .50 cal barrel. IIRC He could do them up to 60"

Once again some folks can't stop banging the "barrel steel " drum. This has been talked about to no end here in the past .I have removed all posts in regards to steel used. You are welcome to discuss anything else in regard's to makers/barrels in this tread with the exception of steel. If you wish to know more about barrel steel you are welcome to use the search function or contact the barrel maker......All references to what steel is used will be removed......now back to your regularly scheduled barrel thread......

Thank you Mitch. Lets just focus on the following:
Commercial makers and contact information (website/address/Facebook, etc)
Maximum barrel length our black powder makers are capable of manufacturing.
I will collate the information, organize it and eventually present it to the rank and file for possible use. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Currently I need the following:
Ben Coogles contact information, and whether he is still in business.
Long Hammock contact information, and whether they are still in business.
Any other makers and their contact information and maximum barrel length they are capable of manufacturing.

Ben Coogles contact information, and whether he is still in business.
Surprisingly, I saw Ben Coogle on the 6 o'clock news a few years ago. It was during one of the hurricanes in Florida and he was pulling his boat out of the water and heading north. The press was shocked by his ingenuity..... ::) I don't know if he's making barrels anymore or not. ???

Is John Getz making any barrels at all ? I had last heard that he was making the occasional one, so thought it worth asking.
-
Charlie offers a few "non-standard" calibers for those who like to be extra different. As I recall 38, 47, 52 are on his list. FWIW.
-
Larry Horrigan in Michigan makes French smoothbore barrels. He had 54 barrel at Friendship, he could possibly make the longer. Cell 269 793 3265

I haven't received it yet but I'm sure I ordered a 50" long .58 smoothbore. I hope you are wrong.

Robby,
When you put all those twisty things in the bore, it makes the barrel shorter. ::)
