I just finished a new personal rifle. It is based on the early Augusta/Rockbridge in JHAT II. I advanced the age a bit imagining my rifle at 1785. I think the pictures speak for themselves. I will put higher resolution photos on my website and on Facebook. This is the first rifle I have finished in two years. I lost interest for a while, but I am working on some personal projects again. The next rifle is iron mounted and loosely based on the work of John Davidson; at least decoratively. There will be similarities to this rifle in the forearm mouldings just as there was between Davidson and the early rifle in JHAT.

Very nice work Mark!
-
Nice.
-
Very sharp, what are some of the particulars?
-
What particulars did you have in mind?
-
Barrel length, cal. Thanks
-
The barrel is a Rice Dickert profile (44") C-54. A White Lightning liner is installed. The lock is a Chambers Early Ketland. The triggers are Davis. The butt piece and trigger guard are Reeves Goehring castings. I made everything else from sheet. The stock is a very fancy stump cut, quartersawn piece of sugar maple from Freddie Harrison. It cost a small fortune many years ago, I hate to think what it would cost today. Let me know if you have any other questions. You can find high resolution photos here: http://www.markelliottva.com/wordpress/2021/09/gun-19-augusta-rockbridge-virginia-rifle/ (http://www.markelliottva.com/wordpress/2021/09/gun-19-augusta-rockbridge-virginia-rifle/) if you want to see all the imperfections; at least the ones I couldn't hide ;)

By the way, I know the dogwood flower and leaves are not traditional, but it is my gun and I like dogwoods.

The bass are spawning when the dogwood trees are blooming. ;)

Besutifull gun, gorgeous wood, impeccable craftsmanship, when are you taking it on a hunt?
-
Mark, a grand rifle and the spirit of the handwork shows, even in the pictures. Thanks for sharing this with us.
For those of you who have not visited Mark's website, it is an excellent site with a lot of great material. Look at this rifle and then browse around.

Great Job Mark, absolutely beautiful. I think I saw the original several years ago at Bowling Green when Wallace had it there. Somewhere I have those pictures that I took of it at that time. Anyway you have done a great job.
-
Wow! That's a beauty. Well made. Keeper for sure.

Super gorgeous rifle, top quality work in my opinion
-
Rich,
I did get the wood from Freddie many years ago.
-
Mark, the dogwood flower impressed me, and was/is a real eye catcher. You've done a splendid job on the whole thing, and I am envious of your "Personal Rifle".

A very nice "personal" rifle. Have fun with it.
