I have threaded many plugs, stoppers, finials, etc... but I have never seen one where the chip ran for so long as one piece. The last of it is seen coming out of the chute. It is off the piece of Maple setting there.

WOW ! That is unusual. Where did you get your threading box ?

I have run some long threads but that one is impressive.

Very odd indeed, pretty cool though.

Frank, I really don't remember, it has no name on it, neither do the directions, it is an 8-1. I trimmed the face/guide plate down to get it closer to the ball but once threaded you can take the plate off and thread right up to the ball if you want, just have to be carefully when you start it. The blade is shaped like a parting tool, the only thing I have ever done is take it apart and strop it.
An online search will show many sources. Here is one that looks like:

That is neat Tim. It speaks of very sharp tools and excellent technique. I often get a continuous chip when cutting a ramrod groove with a gouge...from muzzle to entry pipe, one long curled chip.

Very cool Tim. How are you at peeling apples in one long spiral strip? :-)

"Nifty", comes to mind. Looks like a leather thong.

Now we are getting close to some natural addiction men have to the sensuality of working wood by hand. There are some Japanese groups which meet to determine who has the sharpest plane and can cut the longest thinnest shavings. I enjoy the long thin cuts my homemade spokeshave makes while shaping the maple stocks.

Wowsers!
