Title: Ranger powder horn strap
Post by: kswan on January 29, 2022, 10:14:07 PM
I'm in the process of building a powder horn which could represent something carried by a Ranger during the FIW. What strap would possibly go on this?

Thanks

If you use a straight leather unadorned strap, no one will say you are incorrect.

Or a nice quilled strap

Yes, I agree you can never be wrong with leather in any era.
FWIW - This painting of Rogers in his “dress uniform” and accoutrements (maybe not what he wore in the field) appears to show native-looking straps on both his his horn and bag.  Could be beaded wool, or quilled leather.  But those would all be alternative options.
