Daniel Shell, 1793 - 1864, of Dauphin County, PA was the second son of Martin Shell Jr., along with older brother and more prolific gunsmith, John Shell, and younger brother, Jacob Shell.  Daniel Shell is listed in the 1825 Dauphin County tax list as a Gunsmith.

During the War of 1812, Daniel was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the Pennsylvania Militia.  His Company assembled in York, PA on September 5, 1814, after marching from Harrisburg. From there, they marched to Baltimore in defense of that city.  While his unit's service ended on March 5, 1815, Daniel remained active in the PA Militia after the War of 1812 and was commissioned as a Captain on August 20, 1821.
