This sounds like a great chance to view, learn, study, educate and may be even show off. Great idea Kibler's! :)
-
@!*%... too bad you're 2,000 miles away.
-
Love to come, it over 3000 miles away for me. :'(
-
I just assembled a Colonial kit for a fellow today. Took 2 beers, translated 55 minutes. This is just the parts installed and nothing else. All pins drilled and fitted. No patchbox.
Not much of a challenge.
Pffft. 2 beers in 55 minutes?
Lightweight. ;D
-
Wow! Something to think about. I will still be in the Midwest then. Would really like to meet Jim and see the operation.
-
Wayne nice of you to help someone out. The epitome of we're not doing this for the money!

Ah man. Same weekend as Fort Loudon Market Faire. Or I would make the drive to check it out.
-
Hoping to make the trip!
-
Jim,
You also schedule it the same weekend as the KRA Annual meeting! UGH
VP
-
We are only 1 hour 15 minutes from the KRA location. Come over and see us!
Jim
-
I’m planning to attend on Friday, on my way to the KRA show! I think it’s perfect timing ! Jim’s impressive kits are the best thing that’s ever happened to the muzzleloading culture, in my opinion!
But, I’ve only been involved in muzzleloading since 1974.

I just Google mapped and mine would be a 6 HR drive.....are reservations required?....just wondering if stars and planets align, can you just drop by on the dates listed? Thank you.

No reservations required. Just drop in if your up for it!
Thanks,

Two kegs of beer in 55 minutes. I want to see that gun!!!
-
I think it's on youtube
-
Would love to be able to see the transformation from when I used to come by there years ago to what you have now but it's not doable. Wishing you a successful open house!
-
I love slow-building my SMR kit and would enjoy coming to the open house, but I can't make it work with my schedule. Kibler quality raises the bar for the entire build, especially since this is my first flintlock build and my first period-correct build. Thank you, Jim.
-
I would like to see it but I don't want to leave my wife alone for the hours I'd be gone.Anyway, thanks a lot for making a quality group of products available at a price most can afford and I wish you all possible success in the coming times.

I congratulate you on another brilliant idea Jim. Ideas like this is why your kits are superior in every way. Good luck.

Looking forward to it, Jim. Gonna head East on 30. Hope my Service Dog is up to it - she lives for riding, I think. Getting old (like me) however.
-
This "open house" is a great idea and a chance to see and meet all the wonderful people that produce wonderful muzzle loading kits -
-
Any chance that a percussion SMR will be on display at the open house event?😉
-
I would love to, truly, but 2,341 miles is quite a drive for a weekend. Although I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun!

Ez, 1 just drove 2623 miles one way to attend the TN/MY show, and that distance only got me to Stoner Creek. It's all priorities. A man's gotta walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
-
And return! Another 2,623 miles! With elevated fuel prices, not an economy trip.
For me, about 3.5 hours, Kenton, OH to Friendship, IN. Plus two stops for my Service Dog. STILL haven't been able to make the trip....

I hear you on fuel prices. Average was $4.00 a gallon. I had to leave my truck at home and drive my wife's Honda just for gas mileage. Diesel was about $1.00 higher a gallon than gas.

When you mention factory seconds and scraps of wood, do you ever have a stock that ends up completely snapped in half or unfit for a factory second? I'd love to buy a study stock for both of your rifles. Thank you.

Yes, we do. I think we get somewhere around $75 for one of these. Give us a call and we can fix you up.
Thanks,

Awesome! I'll send you a pm to discuss it further.

If I go in our motorhome is there camping on site that we can stay overnight?
-
Jim is it area wheelchair accessible?
-
Maybe I can chew your ear with machining questions without boring everyone. I can't wait to see your setup in person.
-

We don't have a place for motorhomes on-site, but there is likely some place fairly close you could set-up.
Thanks,
Jim
-
Jim is it area wheelchair accessible?
Everything is on one level, but we do have gravel, around our buildings. There are thresholds on the doors, but I don't think a wheelchair would have too much trouble getting over them.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Are you going to the Gunmakers Fair in Kempton, PA in July? I’d sure like to hear more, style and schedule, on your smoothbore project. Thanks.

No, we won't be going to any shows this year at all. We have found that there is a lot of time and cost with shows and there are better ways to sell product.
I'm working hard on getting the "Woodsrunner" project wrapped up and it's getting there. Next, more work will be put towards the smoothbore fowling piece. All the masters and wax molds are done on the smoothbore, but all the stockwork still needs to be taken care of. It's a ways off...
I would hate to venture a guess as to the development cost for one of our kits. More than most would ever imagine...

I would like to visit on Friday and look the factory "seconds" SMR stocks over. If I visit Friday will I miss anything "new" on Saturday?
Also wondering if you get any SMR stocks with worm holes? I would like to do up an SMR somewhat in the "barn gun" style. Thank you!
-
I cannot wait for the woodsrunner. That Roman nose stock is the chef’s kiss. Love it.
Wish I could attend the show but can’t due to an illness in the family. God bless looks like a heap of fun.

Nope, you'll be just fine with a Friday visit. Nothing new on Saturday planned. We will likely have some stocks with worm damage.
Thanks!

We've been working really hard on getting it ready. It's probably 95% there. Hopefully I'll have some pictures and updates soon.
Thanks,

If you're inviting people to bring flintlocks to for show does that imply a stance on having them for sale? I won't be bringing anything to sell but I'd like to know how light my wallet will be when I'm leaving.
-
Well Daryl, only $10.00 more to go for a very patriotic level of greed.
-
Diesel here in Huntington WVa is staggering toward $6 a gallon and gas is close to $4.40 for unleaded regular.
I have talked to a number of Europeans that have been paying high prices for decades for fuel for their vehicles
and now were are doing our "best" to catch up to them.

I'm sure as long as they are made from chambers kits it will be fine👍

People are more than welcome to bring their longrifles to display. We will require that a waiver be signed that we aren't responsible if anything happens to them as we won't have people guarding them. If someone works out a deal to sell something, that is between the seller and potential buyer.
Thanks,
Jim

I am planning to attend this Friday, I will be the big guy(6'5" and North of 300lb) likely wearing a floppy brimmed hat and goatee...I would be pleased to swap howdy's with anyone from the forum that wishes! -Ben

Hoping for lots of pictures to share with us who can't make it!

Hotel reservation is made, truck is loaded. Starting road trip toward Kibler Longrifles on 2 hours.
-
I plan to be there! I will try to post some pictures.

I love to see these pictures...
But the picture of the free-wood pile is just torture for those of us so far out of reach of it.

I didn’t take any pictures of the machining process. I don’t think Jim would appreciate that. But I didn’t ask. The food was great. There was plenty and all at no cost. The staff was everywhere and ready to answer any question. While there you could pick a stock either fancy or one with a small defect. You could save some money or get a fancy stock of your choosing. It was nice to be able to pick up and handle the woods runner.

I don't know who the guy at the end of the counter is, but easy to caption that pic! "Oh my god, I spent how much?!"

The factory tour was interesting. I asked about pictures and the guide said no, as expected.
-
A well run open house event, and fun was had by all as far as I could see. The shop tour was a great feature!
The rifle Jim built by hand that the "Woodsrunner" kit is based on was there on display, a couple guys took it 2 steps outside to shoulder it without fear of "flashing" the folks inside. I followed them and picked a tree branch 80 yards away and closed my eyes then shouldered the rifle and opened my eyes....I was pointed directly at the branch in the spot I was looking AND the sights where in Perfect alignment with my eye and the branch, zero adjustments needed. I can say that very few long guns fit me THIS well. I think Jim has a winner in this new kit.

Also I spoke with Jim about the upcoming Fowler kit, he confirmed that he hopes to offer it in both 20 ga AND 16 gage!
On the way out I scored a sizable chunk of curly maple scrap to do some aqua fortice/stain/wood finish color tests on, I left the event a very happy camper.
-
Glad I made the trip! You guys did an excellent job and feeding everyone on your dime was really classy.
It was hard not to spend a bunch of money on seconds (that are nicer than everything else being offered), but have two woodsrunner’s on order…….well there’s only so much room in the dog house.
-
I also had the opportunity to meet and speak with Andy Cook for well over an hour about the finer points of a Kibler longrifle. His rifles (2) are stocked in curly Ash and can be seen on the Kibler website under customer completed rifles. I got to view and handle the rifles and not only do they look beautiful, but his sample target had all shots touching at 60 yards, so he has them shooting awesome as well!

It's great to see the event looking so enjoyable. Thanks for the photos.
Sure would love to rummage through the cut-offs for some small blocks of Curly Maple!
-
Great event all around. It was great to see what you are doing and to see your processes up front. Thanks for doing that.
-
That was a great event. Hopefully it ended up being beneficial to Jim and his business since you could ostensibly go, tour, and eat without spending a dime. My wife picked out her own stock for a SMR and it ended up being a burly and curly piece of ash that wasn't at all marked down ;D
Thanks for answering my questions, I could have made that tour go on a lot longer and I would have been willing to do some work to make up for it! And those fried pies are downright dangerously good. I can't wait to take a tour again in a few years and see how much your business has grown.
-
Sure looked like a nice turnout. A big thank you to all those who posted pictures. :)
-
I went up there today with a couple of friends and we had a great time. Thank you for putting this together and being such a gracious host, we were treated like family. I can't believe this hasn't been discussed yet:
I couldn't believe it either at first, but any casting you see on that table was one dollar, as many as you wanted, I think I made about 3 trips back and forth to the cash register! The imperfections were so minor, a little file work and you're good to go for most of the stuff on that table.

I missed that! I saw the table but didn’t know they were that inexpensive! Of course I have three muzzleloader projects right now and no intention of starting another!
-
I find those planks to be far more interesting than the parts. Were the planks a dollar a piece too? ;)
-

That picture was taken I think after my first or second pass around so there were even more goodies on it when we arrived earlier that day. They had a lot of triggers and sights and other stuff on there as well, all being sold for one dollar!
-

I was too embarrassed to ask after loading up on the dollar castings...
-
They had a lot of great deals. Picked up a 50 caliber barrel for their colonial for $175 that was listed as a second.
-
Really bummed I couldn't make it down...
-
Fun times by everyone it appears.
-
I brought my 16 year old son to the open house and he surprised me today when he said he would like to build one of the Southern Mountain rifle kits. As it turns out he had saved enough money from his part-time job to pay for it so we ordered the kit this afternoon. Figured he shouldn't have all the fun so I bought a second one for myself as well, should be a good father-son activity.
-
Indeed it is a good father son activity. I built one with my college - age son when he was home last summer. It was enough work to keep him busy but not so much as to be overwhelming and doable over his break.
-
I went, never saw a waiver, but my gun did not up and walk away either. I was extremely glad I went. Now for some photos.
