What to do with this horn?


I just got this european flat horn. It has been quite damaged by insects rodents. One site has been so deeply gnawed that a hole has been formed. However, the horn has a  good working head according to the Boche patent.
What should I do? Would you advise me to leave it as it is, or should I try to repair it with synthetic resin?

 First question is, do you want to use it? if it is to go into a collection I would leave it as it is. You could wrap a piece of leather around it, sew and glue it in place, you could  make it look like a period repair. I think anything else is going to show as a contemporary repair.

Just a thought Dutch,

If you coloured some beeswax to match, it could be applied warm and smoother down to make the wounds less obvious.
Its pretty tough stuff and sticks well.
Nothing  irreverisible about it.

I just did some "repair" using beeswax at minor damages. That will function rather well and its nearly not visible.

Maybe these damages should be considered as  wounds of time?

I am not a dentist, but have always wondered if dental bonding material would do the job? It is two part, can be colored to match and is cured/hardened by a UV light source. It can be shaped, filed and polished. Guess the question is 'will it adhere to the horn'?

Dutch,
Wounds of time should likely show, but wounds that are the death of an item should I think be dressed up for display, otherwise,
they are a constant cause of distress to look at!
I mean, who can enjoy looking at a nice old horn with a hole eaten in it!?  It detracts rather badly from the pleasure.
