Title: reloading stand
Post by: recurve on June 28, 2022, 06:16:23 PM
At my club the range tables/benches are not muzzle loader friendly so with scrap wood I made a reloading stand to clamp on to the benches

Looks like a good solution to a problem.   Two thumbs up.

How does your handle fit in that hole on your range rod?  I hope youre not putting the jag in the hole and putting it on the ground.

I use a rubber mat on the ground or a rug/car mat keeping the rifle and jag clean

Taylor and I usually use a piece of carpet on the ground and/or concrete floor.
He had made a notched board for holding the guns, held down by the box, when shooting at the range
or off the tailgate of the truck, as we've been doing for the postal matches.

Two C-clamps and a hand towel make a great reloading stand.  I just clamp them to the side of a bench, and use a hand towel over them to protect the finish.  I too use a carpet scrap on the ground to protect the butt.

I am inveterate "rod-flipper".  My rod always goes butt-down on the ground.  I never ever want to introduce dirt into my bore, and my ground carpet can get sandy.   I just lean it against my outside of the right-hand C-clamp.

Now that I have one of Spiderman's range boxes with the foldout barrel cradle, I will have to modify my procedure slightly.   :-)

God Bless,   Marc

I made mine from oak & used 2 large screw eyes to hold my rod & ball starter, one on either side. I also covered the back with suede to protect that side & make it slide less. Now I need to put a screen door latch across the barrel cradle to keep the gun from falling if unattended between relays. I hate the sound of a nice rifle hitting concrete.

I used a drill press vise grip clamp to secure to the table /bench
