Title: Old Time Turn Screw
Post by: J Shingler on August 17, 2022, 08:13:26 PM
I needed a couple turnscrews for the shooting box.  Wanted something that looked better than a plastic handled Crafstman screwdriver. So I decided to make a couple sizes. One size fits the narrow top jaw and cock screw. The smaller one to fit the internal lock screws.  The brass ferrules are made from 45 ACP brass cases and 40 cal brass cases for the smaller size. Hand turned the handles on the lathe. Sanded a couple flats to keep them from rolling off a table or fit in a bag better. The turnscrew shanks are made from allen wrenches. Ground to size and heated and given a decorative twist. Turned out pretty good I think.

Good that's what we are here for. Sharing ideas. Keep the end to be ground to the turnscrew bit clamped in the vice as a heat sink and you will not need to reharden and tempor.. Keep cool as you grind it of course.

Very nice! Neat ‘twist’ on the shank. Nice addition to any rifle or gun.
Cheers Richard

Those would be great with a hex inset on the shaft to attach some of the Brownells bits.  Then you could have one handle and numerous bits for your rifle.
