Title: Couple of old horns?
Post by: 2victor2 on March 03, 2023, 07:17:18 AM
These came with a rifle I bought years ago. They looked old. But someone here would have more experience then me. Any thoughts or input would be helpful.

Marc.

Thanks for sharing the photos.  The carved decoration on the the spout of the bottom horn is sweet.

Thanks, the two larger ones look like Pine to me, the smaller may be Maple. Does the screw you took out look hand made or machine made, have you taken the other out?

Here’s a pic of the screws. I didn’t think much of the little horn. Kinda looked newer.

Just good, honest old horns. I love their simplicity and they remind me of the old working horns I saw as a youngster back in East Tennessee. Thanks for showing them.

Victor, thank you for. bringing some new things to the Forum! Much appreciated. The two larger ones are just dandies. I am with you on the smaller one as I just don't care for black and white horns, and I don't think the they were the preferred color way back then. Still and all, the three make a nice collection. Thanks again.

What was the rifle they came with?  May or may not have been a connection for one of the larger ones?

The horns are very nice.  The subtle incised carving on the spout of that one is interesting.

The rifle is a beauty!
