This is an adaptation that I stumbled upon sometime back, thought some might find it useful. I use a 3/8” brass rod, cut to about 4 1/2” in length. Using a flat mill file, I taper the rod and form an undercut ledge at the tip. This ledge will rest over the edge of the sight base and stabilizes the drift while tapping the sight into the dovetail. Also great for sight adjustments. I’ve made several of these, and they work well.

Nice deal. Gotta watch brass can work harden an actually become as hard as steel. I’ve deformed steel with brass before. I normally drift sights with a hickory punch. Metal punches are a last resort for me. Lots of ramrod scraps to make punches out of in my shop. BJH
