Title: looking for info on a couple flask. w/pics
Post by: DarryH on August 23, 2008, 08:24:25 PM
I have a leather powder flask and a leather shot flask I need to identify.
Both are pretty old.
The one with the dog is marked on the brass: AM. FLASK & CAP CO
Does anyone know this company and when & where they operated?
The one with the game scene is marked on the leather 2 1/2 lbs
The brass is unmarked.

Here are pics
Thanks
Good Shootin!!

Darry,

You have to have your pictures put into a picture hosting site. If you go to the Tutorials Forum toward the bottom of the forum page, the first tutorial is all about posting pictures on a web site.

They're both shot flasks.  The one with the thumb lever on the side is commonly called English style, and the other one is an Irish style.  Probably mid to late 19th century.  Fairly common  They're sold on sites like  Ebay for anywhere from $20 to about $90 depending on quality, and maker.  As with any antique, the provenance will affect the value also.  There is probably a makers mark somewhere on the spout of them.  Used with old muzzleloading shotguns.

Darry:
Ray Riling's "The Powder Flask" book has some background information on American Flask & Cap Co.
Hope this is of help.
