Whetrock:  the lock on that rifle looks to me like a L & R John Bailes flintlock.

Congrats!!  And great pics.  Im tired of seeing deer pics in the back of truck, garage floors, back of 4 wheelers, gutted so u cant see how big the buck is.  Well done!

Thanks Steve. I know my engraving compares fairly well to most American engraving of the period.  I'd like to be good enough I'd have to try making it look "period" instead of perfect!  Just takes practice!!

I didn’t begin this journey until I was almost 50…life had a few knuckle balls to throw at me first! My first build was a Chambers smooth rifle I built along side my dad who made a lefty Chambers fowler. Even though my dad has built amazing muzzleloaders since he was a young man, I was still terrified by the thought of making something from all those pieces and parts. He was an amazing teacher and I was hooked. Then I bought a Kibler southern rifle to have a better feel for nuances of stock shaping, etc. These two kits, although very different in skills required to complete, were the gateway for me to make several plank builds now. I enjoy not being limited by pre-inlet pre-shaped styles and any mistakes made are mine to own!

Sweet build and very clean looking. We get so focused on perfection in engraving we lose sight of the fact that most American builds of the era had engraving that had many of the same imperfections! Nice work!!

I’ve only used Wyoming Armory in Cody,Wyoming but they have been great. No warping, nice color but not gaudy and fast turnaround.
