Forging a gun barrel at Martin's Station, and other stuff
« on: April 19, 2010, 02:06:08 AM »
Some cool things are happening at our Gunshop at this years "The Raid at Martin's Station", May 7-9.

Richard Sullivan from the Colonial Williamsburg Gunshop will be forging a gun barrel on Friday, May 7, and some other gun parts the rest of the weekend. The barrel forging will begin about 8AM or so and will continue for about 5 or 6 hours.

Mike Miller will be doing gun part engraving demos all weekend.

Gary Tucker will be manning the gunshop as my sub on Saturday, like he did last year.

If these guys can't answer your questions  ;), I'll be in or around the Gunshop all day Friday, after about 7PM on Saturday, and after Wallace Gusler's presentation on Sunday (see below).

After the Raid, the gunshop will be open Wed-Sun through the end of October. I'm usually (but not always) there on Sundays, and sometimes Fridays and Wednesdays. If you're coming for a visit, email me to find out my schedule for any given week. The other guys there know pretty much what I tell visitors, but may not be able to answer the type of questions ALR members might ask.

Another good reason the come to the Raid is that Wallace Gusler will again be giving a presentation. This will be all new material, sort of a preview of a forthcoming book. He will be giving the presentation Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday morning. Here's the problem. Over 300 reenactors and who knows how many guests are expected to attend the Raid, but the auditorium Wallace will be speaking in only holds 55 people, legally. Since Billy Heck doesn't want the Fire Chief to haul him off to jail, he's taking reservations for the seats. Call Billy at 276-445-3065 to reserve a seat.

Thanks for the heads up, Andy...I'll call for a seat reservation first thing in the morning.  I just checked out the Martin's Station website this morning, but still couldn't find a detailed schedule of events.

Guys, if you're within driving distance of Cumberland Gap, this is definitely one NOT to miss!
