Another Powder Measure

  I had one good antler tip left, so decided to make another measure. This one holds 100 gr. The spirals make two revolutions around. The brass ball is a modified lamp nut threaded onto a steel shank which is threaded into the antler. Thanks for looking.

  After the hole is drilled, I slip in a snug fitting wood dowel to be a handle. I open my vise jaws a little, and lay down a piece of suede leather over the the opening. Then set the antler in the narrow gap holding on to the dowel, and start filing.

That's a beautiful measure. I was amazed to see so many similar measures - bone and antler at Dixons last July. too much filing for his guy- but wow - they sure look cool!

Wick,  another "awesome" powder measure.  Great job, I keep goofing them up just trying to make butt ugly functional antler measures.  Out of curiosity, how long is that measure?  Takes a lot to get 100 grs.

I think I met you at the CLA show.  I talked to you about engraving for a few minutes, Roy Stroh was there when we were talking.

  Overall length, roughly 5 1/8", not counting the ring. The powder chamber stops just short of the spirals. Hole is 7/16" diameter. I am thinking the hole was around 2 1/2" deep.

  1/8" round for the smallest, and whatever larger I felt would work for the rest. I really don't remember.
