New Powder Measure
« on: May 28, 2010, 10:47:45 PM »
Hi Folks:

This is a 60 grain measure I just finished for a customer.  He wanted something a little fancier than I usually make, so I thought this one up. It is made from hard maple, about 3" long and 3/4" wide at the lip. The inside of the lip is flared to make pouring easier. A fun project and something that I had not done previously.

Hope you like it. As usual, comments, criticisms, or any other observations are always welcome.

Thanks,

Jeff

Great looking powder measure. Is it a copy of any you have seen before? You  keep coming up with the most unusual items.  Ray

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.

Ray, this is not really a direct copy of anything, per se. I think it is more of a compilation of the hundreds of original pieces I have seen, and somehow tuck away in the brain. I think it has a bit of NC bee hive influence in it.

It is very difficult for me to hand carve much anymore, so I resorted to the lathe. Lots of original horn pieces were produced on lathes, so I think it follows right along in that vein.

Jeff, very nice little item and good job on the turning.  I can empathize with your comment regarding about shaping with the hands and files though.
And very PC.  That is 'Pretty Cool"!   ;D
