What can you fine people tell me about Dave Motto rifle builder?

If it's the guy I'm thinking of I've seen his guns for sale at Dixon's. Never anything fancy but a servicable, quality piece.  I think he used to live in central PA but moved south.

I knew him pretty well. He used to live in Catawiisa in central PA. Moved to W. VA. years ago. I don't have any current contacts.

Knew Dave real well, I have a rifle he did for me many years ago.    Just a plain jane thing, but it was my favorite shooting
gun.   I used to sell him barrels and took this gun in payment for barrels.  He now lives down near Bruceton Mills, W.Va.,
same town as Keith Casteel.   His lock inlets were outstanding.   Haven't seen him for many years.........Don

The reason I ask about Dave, is I have a very nice JP Beck style rifle made by Dave, I've had the rifle for several years and I don't know anything about builder. I tried several times to dig up info on Dave, but no luck, I only know he lived in WV at one time.

Call Dixons. They can help you out. Greg and he colaberated on several rifles. I met him a few times at the GMF , real nice guy!

I always liked his work which was very clean.  Sometimes his guns resurface for resale.  I heard he no longer builds.

Yeah, looks like Abe Lincoln and probably just as honest and hardworking....I bought a used chunk barrel from him years ago and built my log gun around it!  Shoots to don't know if he does!

He used to set up a table in the very first row at Friendship, just to the left after you walked in the front gate, across the aisle from Jerry Eder.  Haven't seem him in a while, but his favorites seemed to be Beck style guns.  A few have turned up for sale on TOW over the years.  He has a good reputation for building well made, good shooting rifles.

zOne other thing I got from Dave....a simple "cramp", used to compress a frizzen spring to remove it.   I don't think I have
ever seen another one offered by anyone, yet it is so simple, after you see one you will wonder why you didn't think of it

Don.... I didn't even think of that. I had one of those too and misplaced it(lost in the move after divorce) but that thing worked well. I'd buy another...to lazy to make it.

I know Dave to be an obliging gentleman and a first-rate artisan.  He lives and works about three clicks off the grid, in the vicinity of Bruceton Mills WV. 
Dave crafted a .54 Berks dreampiece for me about 5 years ago, which I picked up at his place.  Spent the better part of an afternoon christening it on the porch of his cabin and poking around the wonderments of his largely hand-driven shop.
He's a rare, and original breed!

              Thats kind of what I was looking for, It's nice to know a little about a rifles builder, it makes the rifle more personal. I too want very badly to "live off the grid"
my last is in high school, after shes done I'm really considering fading away.

I talked to him 4-5 years ago.

He had a couple projects to go and he was done.

He put his kids through colledge building guns.

He has stomach trouble, hates taxes, and has old eyes.

I saw his own personal gun, he only had one, on gun broker last year.

I really enjoyed our talks, he would teach anybody anything he knew - Which was a lot.

A real gentleman.
