I happen to have a long rifle with a front sight containing a 'strip' of ivory where you 'look'. Just fine if you have the light behind you; but shooting in to the light you have a regular dark frt sight blade. I also happen to shoot a long rifle with a flourescent strip in frt sight that works the same. That has changed to an 'Ochre" colured blade (where you look) That is also frowned upon depending where I'm shooting!

Daryl's suggestion of filing/stoning the top of the frt sight at an angle or slope to pickup light (in the bush in particular) works quite well.

Here are some photos of the way I make a front sight with an ivory blade. Basically I just capture a tapered piece of ivory between the bottomof the dovetail and a tapered slot in a metal sight base.
