That you gotta make your bag pieces a bigger than ya want so that when ya get it all soft and loose that the final product will be the right size...

Finished my first bag in veg tan and dyed it this morning and my wife said, that will make a nice item for the young girl's trade blanket, its kinda small.

I'll post some pics when I get the little thing all done...

I suspect that anyone who makes pouches has "been there and done that." The worst part is when you leave extra for seam allowances and it still comes out smaller than you wanted it to and/or the final shape is different than the pattern you drew. That can really make the day interesting and colorful...

The most important thing is just to have fun with it and go on. I will always be learning.

I made my first bag a few years back (pre-Tim Albert's book).  I figured I would make a practice bag first out of some old scrap leather I had.  But it came out a lot better than I thought, so I kept it, and still use it.  Only problem is I didn't allow for the seams, so it is smaller than I wanted.  My buddy calls it my "changepurse".  However, since then, I have seen many originals that were about the same size (6 x 6.5"), so I like it a whole lot better now!  I did make this one with a gusset in the bottom, so it holds everything I need for my .40
