Although the article was published in The Gun Report 4 years ago, I realize that many who visit this site would not be familiar with it. And given that the Jos Bogle rifle shows up fairly regularly in different conversations on the site, I though it would be helpful to have it posted here. The rifle is an important transitional Southern gun, and worthy of study.
Note that there is a typo in the final paragraph which reads " the banana patchbox rifle McTeer made a decade or so later". It should read "the banana patchbox rifle made FOR McTeer a decade or so later." That reference is to the banana box rifle which Tom Patton acquired from the McTeers at the same time he acquired the early Jos Bogle rifle which is pictured above. Also, as posted, the article is missing the footnotes.
