      FWIW Over in the For Sale forum there is a post on Sassafras wood, here is a site with a breakdown of wood, scroll down until you get to the species descriptions. If you like tech manuals you will like this one. I am sure form the scientific to the practical side there will be differences as always.

Useful material.  Hey, Fred Miller is vindicated.  There is not only a black maple, but it is hard and strong.

interesting .
 i did a SXS stock out of  Black Limba a while back . working it was not like teak . but more like English walnut . In fact i didnt find the piece i was working with anything like teak . Much , much harder with the grain changing quickly

 great place . you can go in , go through invantory and  hand pick what you want .

 i had to buy  the full plank on that one though to get the area i wanted . plank was
18 in  W 10 ft long and  2/1/2 inches thick
