No.....not that kind. I'm talking about the silver studs I've seen in the grip areas of some rifles. On the flats of flat top checkering.
About when and where did these first appear?

I('d say, in England and France at the end of the 18th Century, and in American guns such as Fordney's, 1st quarter of the 19th Century. Just a guess.
