As requested by Tim Crosby, here are pics of my Cdn and Brit powder horns.
These are also horns which I've had since the mid seventies (a period when my collecting disease was out of control
).
The Brit horn has the British coat-of-arms and has a date of "1779" and an inscription "A Gift From Percy Hale For His Brother Willie" (in very nice script). It has pictures of a fort, a ship, an angel, a horse, a soldier on horseback, and a number of animals and birds which look like they come from New Zealand or Australia (e.g. kangaroo, etc).
Approx 12.5" long.
The Canadian horn is an east coast horn (but could be U.S. east coast horn), - it was sold to me as a Canadian east coast horn - maybe someone here (smarter than me) has another opinion.
It is engraved with ships, animals (some with arrows in them), fish, birds, trees and a "MAIRMAID"
It is also engraved with "ISRAEL. SMITH: B:C:FEB:11"
Approx 13.5" long (incl plugs).
