Couple of Powder Horns: Pre-American Revolution
« on: August 16, 2010, 07:16:53 PM »
I posted some pics of my Louis Smith O/U FL rifle yesterday and figured that I may as well post pics of my 2 American powder horns (I've got a few more but they are British or  Canadian):
The 1st  one I'm posting is a Map Horn (shows New York, New York State and has the British coat-of-arms).
The 2nd horn has lots of images (large ship with rigging, building, animals, sun, etc).
Both of these horns have been in my possession for close to 40 years.

VHawk,

REALLY enjoyed the pictures of the horns.   Thank you for posting them.

I'm curious as all get out about the eye hooks in the one horn.  Are they iron or very patina'd brass?

Gus: Both eye hooks are rusted and were that way when I acquired them in the early '70's so I assume they are made of iron.
