Who makes lefthanded small siler flintlocks?
« on: September 15, 2010, 07:33:32 PM »
There is a lefthanded small siler listed for sale here. Does anyone know who made it? I'd be thankful for any info on the lock.

Best regards

I wish I knew.  I can't remember if Bud Siler made the small lock in left hand.

The board stats say we have 2250 members.  There are probably 225 southpaws on the board who want the answer to that question. ;)

There is no Small left-handed Siler lock on the market.  Nor has there ever been, to the best of my knowledge.

He must have the only one as I ahve been wanting one for years.  Always had to use L&R or Large Siler.

Neither Bud Siler or I ever made a small left hand Siler lock.  The tooling does not exist and never did.  I have considered making one several times, but so far time and other projects just has not permitted.

He corrected his ad - it is a left hand Russ Hamm lock, not a Siler.

I have to agree with David Veith.  There are no lefthand locks of that size that fits that time period. I have a Large Siler on my smooth rifle, which does not have all the bells and whistles of the English styled left hand locks of competitors, but which I like better.

I wouldn't know a Siler from silage, so I should probably keep my mouth shut.  But that's never stopped me once in my whole danged life.   ::)

On the topic of small left-handed locks, I'll speak up on behalf of the Cochrain if you can find one.  I've got a couple headed for builds.  Authentic or not, they're sure dandies.

I have 2 left-handed Cochran locks, one on a rifle and one on a pistol in progress.  Ashmore and Cochran both made smaller left-handed flintlocks, unfortunately both are NLA.  There are some still hanging around and I got the one for my pistol project from Keith Casteel a couple years back.
