tang sight
« on: October 05, 2010, 06:06:06 PM »
I'm looking for a tang sight to be used on an English sporting rifle I am working on. I had settled on the Ballard mid range, by Axtel, but it seems, this is no longer available. I chose that sight because I felt it had a quality of elegance in design and craftsmanship, adjustable in windage and elevation, yet compact, that would work well with the my gun. I kind of put all my eggs in one basket with this sight, and I'm not sure where to look for an alternative. Any suggestions for other options for a similar sight, or if there is a used one that you might know about, would be greatly appreciated.

You might check Buffalo Arms as they supply sights for long range BP cartridge target shooters.

Robby,
Just finished an English Sporting rifle.  We looked high and low for appropriate target sights and finally settled on these.  They are correct for the time period of the rifle and we used the Lyman 17A front sight.  The sight is the Pedersoli Creedmore USA468.  They cost $200 and are as well made as any on the market.  Windage and elevation are built into the adjustments, as well as having 2" of elevation on the staff.  This gun will be used in 100 and 200 yard offhand competition.  As built, in the lowest position, it shot dead nuts at 25 yards.
