Magnafying Glass and case
« on: November 02, 2010, 10:40:44 PM »
Have built a couple of these over time. I use scrap figured maple and whatever little glass I can come across. The wood is finished with A.F. and linseed oil. I don't know as how I have ever seen one exactly like this but it's similar to a number of different storage containers I have seen.

This is really neat, if you made another lid on the other side you could keep tinder or even a whole kit for days the sun didn't shine.

Great idea!!! Race you to see who gets one done first.

Thats what second hand stores are for. Let us see it when you get it done.

Joe,

I've done these for period spectacles.

Not sure if Steve does it this way, but you can set it up for a tight friction fit of the lid just as it is slips fully into place by angling the bottom of the lid very slightly.  You want the lid thinner on the side that slides all the way over the top and a bit thicker on the side that just comes into contact when the lid is almost completely over the top of the bottom piece that holds the spectacles or glass.
