Under the Christmas Tree
« on: December 21, 2010, 04:42:48 AM »
Here are three flintlocks which I recently completed.  The top gun in the first photo is a close copy of a John Shuler rifle that was once owned by a collector friend of mine.  The carving and the patch box engraving, as well as the stock architecture, are copied as nearly as possibly from the original.  The second gun down is a copy of a Joseph Angstadt that I carefully measured and photographed.  I copied the outline of the stock directly from the original.  The patch box details, ram rod pipes and the wear plate are as on the original.   The bottom rifle is in what I call the extreme Bucks Co. style.  It is deeply influenced by RCA 65.  I find that this gun fits and handles like a dream.  This gun is in 54 cal. smoothbore and is rather unadorned as ordered by the client.   The two Bucks Co. rifles will be going to their new owners at the Lewisburg show.  The Angstadt copy will be on my table there.
Best wishes of the Christmas Season to one and all.     Ron

I'd be happy to find any one of the three under my tree. Nice looking rifles Ron.

Ron,

As usual, really nice work!  I'm kind of partial to the Shuler, just because I like the style.  I really like the over all "look" of all three.  Great finish with a subtle patina, first rate craft-manship, engraving, carving, nice work!  Someones going to be very happy...

Ron, Thanks for sharing the pics. I'm a big fan of your work. Among other things I like the soft brown color and finish  of these rifles. Would you mind sharing your finish technique ?

Ron, those are fine looking rifles! I have a soft spot for Bucks County styled rifles! And those hit the spot!!
