Carrying lead (outside your bod)
« on: December 13, 2010, 11:02:21 PM »
Ok, I''ll ask!!~

Our Canadian friends, like the larger calibers since the critters are generally larger up 'there'!  They are also lucky in that they have access to w walks up to 80 or more shots. Hmmmmmm.  Snow up to their jock staps at times.  Now assume they are shooting say a .62 caliber rifle or smoothy or some such animal.  Do they carry all that lead on one side of their bod or 40 balls on the left and 40 on the right or do they walk with a heavy list? ;D

but i carry maybe about 40 shots worth in a ball bag a powder flask full, 3 knives. a priming flsk.
in the possibles bag, a bag mold, a lead ladle, about 5 ladle size ingots, patch's, BP solvent , lube, oil
flint and steel, and all the ramrod accessories i need

I try to carry an equal number of balls on each side.

My big bore bag has a 3" wide strap - no biggie, but 80 shots for the 14 bore, weighs very close to 5 1/2 pounds of balls. Another 1 1/2 pounds for powder, etc - rifle weighs 9 1/2  - fairly light load.

I now realize that my rig includes a belt bag as a shooting bag rather than one over the shoulder.  So, I'm happily going on down the road worrying about my load of lead pulling down my drawers.  Thank heaven for suspenders. ::)

Seriously:  I don't like weight hanging on my shoulders while trying to shoot offhand.  :)

On a woods walk I have my powder horn hanging from my neck, My loin cloth on of course!
My rifle in hand and 40 lead balls tightly clenched between the cheeks of my "A--"
Merry Christmas to all.
Now wouldn't that be a sight to see!

I'm going to reserve judgement 'till I hear what caliber....,That ~quarter inch between .36 or ~.58 could add up in a hurry. ;D

If you need 40 large caliber balls when you go hunting carrying them won't be a problem.  Just put them in the cab of the tractor trailer rig you will need to bring out the game with.  I know but it's almost midnight New Years Eve and I am getting a little carried away.
