A friend has a long-rifle that appeaars to me to be a late Bedford, barrel stamped PANNEBECKER and engraved in script Wm Bo (William Border 1800-1881?). It has seen a number of repairs, and someone replaced the lock with a hand-made new one. My books show only very fancy Bedford rifles.
Do any of you have suggestions regarding sources for information on signed, plainer rifles? This one has a cap box
rather than the earlier long patchbox. It does have a small, interesting touch on the forestock across the ramrod channel
and a more or less Bedford profile
Nice trigger guard
rear tang solder repaired.
