I just finished putting together a French FDC.The stock appears to be cut from the dead center of the tree,the zero growth ring is clearly visible from the buttplate end . Upon finishing I noticed speckles on the area from the toe to the rear of the triggerguard.As if something might have been spilled or dripped on to discolor it. Proportionally on the top side of the wrist there is similar discoloration, but not as noticable,it depends how it is held to view it, as to how more obvious it is. Is this the nature of a piece of wood cut this way?I made sure that this area was well sanded as the grain structure/growth rings were a little more open than the rest of the stock,
The rest of the stock is fine.It does not bother me all that much ,but a fellow who is going to spend a couple of $$ might not care to see it.
I could sand /refinish, But am not thouroughly convinced that it will go away.
