Finished my 12 ga game gun (NEW PICS)
« on: February 20, 2011, 06:51:00 PM »
Dont know if im posting in the right spot but here is a photo of my Caywood 12 ga english game gun that i put together from a kit. specs are 30 inch barrel jug choked full, stumpwood maple, brass furniture,2 coats LMF nutbrown stain,4 coats LMF sealer,25 coats hand rubbed tru oil.I will dull the brass an knock the stock shine down of course an will work up a good turkey load for it this week. when my daughter an grandsons come down I will get them to post multiple photos but I dont know how yet (your lucky I can get 1 posted) I didnt try to age it any cause it WILL look rough enough after a hard turkey season anyway. Hope you like it an good luck to all you longbeard hunters this spring

Mighty fine looking gun! Great work....you should be proud.
Question regarding your stock.....In picking a good piece of wood, is it better to get the trunk of the tree as deep as possible to the root to get the best grain?

Old Ford I wish I could take credit for picking that wood but Id be a bald faced liar if I did. All I did was tell Danny Caywood I wanted a good piece of maple an HE did the picking an he also done a lot of the work on this gun. Basically all I did was a little final fitting of some of the furniture, install the trigger an final shaping an finish of the stock an brown the metal. He is a good guy to deal with an will give you more than your moneys worth. When you get one of these kits ANYBODY can put it together with just a little bit of patience. An by the way thanks everyone for the compliments

WOW ! That sure is a beautiful piece of wood and it makes for a gorgeous Fowler. That pouch and horn rig goes nicely with the gun to. Thanks Alan for posting those stunning pictures.   Regards  Frank

Very nice - it will do for a 30yard fence-line shot on a buck, too.

Nice looking gun and should work for turkeys.  I built up a 30"  fowler and have enjoyed it.  As Daryl said it should also take a deer if needed.
