Well, I thought I'd take a walk through the artfull history of the longrifle and ask what would you call this design and who may have possibly built it? http://michaelsimens.com/Admin/mikesimages/kentucky_rifle_3241b.jpg

Courtesy of Dr. Whisker...

Charles Meissner (1814-) born in Saxony, Germany, worked in Zanesville, Muskingum Co, OH
Charles died on 8 July 1895
There is much data on him in Ohio Gunsmiths & Allied Tradesmen, 4:26-27
and an identical patchbox is shown on a gun I photographed maybe 30 years ago
on page 50; also shown in vol 1 of my photo book of Ohio made longrifles

Thank you Dr. Whisker for filling me in on the maker of this interesting percussion rifle. I kind of like the work that is a bit off the beaten path. A unique style that follows no other. Thanks also to you Bruce for relaying the message....Joel

I wish I could clone the hard drive in Dr. Whisker's brain over to
mine.  As always, a wealth of information.  Thanks for sharing.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.
