You never know what is motivating the buyer.   Could be
a descendant of the maker, someone who collects that maker
or area.  It's hard to say what drove the price other than the
gun was a nice example and the condition appeared to be very
good.  Personally, I'm glad to see it go that high.  It says to me
that it doesn't have to be a Lancaster or Bedford gun to get
a nice value.   Maybe there's hope for us Western PA collectors
after all.

I think that price is in the ball park considering apparent condition. Could have gone higher without the buyer being hurt IMHO. You guys gotta get out more.

I think it was a little steep for a rifle from that area that has no incised carving.

Just curious if any of you think that this was reconverted back to flint or simply converted to flint from percussion to 'enhance' its market value.    When viewed from the side and top, that has got to be the shortest breech plug I've ever seen to be practical.  I'd hesitate to use the word 'safe.'  What do you think?  A flash hole that goes through the threads and into a side or rear chamber perhaps?

I have seen a few rifles that were not nearly as clean as this one have price tags that were higher. I think it was a pretty honest rifle and I bid on it myself becasue of that. If the lock was not original it was a darn good replacement. I have seen many that were replaced that were not shall we say that well done. My only problem with it is I did not win it.
