Are you saying I haven't? Just because I don't post much here doesn't mean a lack of experience., far from it! I don't believe in peening, never will. In my experience it's a waste of time and can cause problems down the road. To each his own, but as hard as it is for some to figure it out, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Draw filing isn't rocket science. I am done with this thread.
Without knowing who you are, since your personal information is hidden, I have no idea of what you might know. I do know that Dan and Bookie are more than accomplished gunsmiths who know what they are talking about.
Moreover, I have used the same peening technique to remove the lettering on several guns. It works when done properly, leaving little draw filing.
Many light blows on a 3/16 or so rounded punch, with the rounded end polished bright, with a light hammer, works wonders to remove most of the lettering.
I prefer using the punch as it can be placed exactly where you want it. Some folks, myself included, don't always put the hammer marks exactly where they should go.
