Barrel Boreing & Reamer Project
« on: March 03, 2011, 02:56:12 AM »
Gents, for those of you who are interested, you can follow along on my website to see how I go about building a reaming bench.  This type of machine works and you can see it work in APR's DVD of me.  This is a project that is about half completed to date and hope to have it done in a week or so.   I was going to put all this info into another book so's I could amass still more untold wealth, but figured that since I'm a nice guy..aw right, Packdog! Knockitoff! Quit yer laffin'! ...I'd just post it for FREE and then everyone can benefit from it.  My new website is www.toadhallrifleshop.com .  Cheers, Bookie

Bookie,

Thank you for sharing this valueable information and mechanical art. It's things like this that I make an effort to share with my boys. It's because of folks like you here on ALR that we have these opportunities!

Best regards,

Afghanus, thank you for the kind words.  Methinks your name speaks more than it lets on.

Brother Ken, Thanks for your kind comments, too.  I was in a complete funk yesterday afternoon and traded my 2-door, powder blue and white, '57 Chevy for two Moon Pies.  Got to keep the baby moon hub caps, though.   Hadn't had a hit in over a month .  When we got to Wally World, they was clean out!  One of the cash register ladies felt sorry for me standing there with the delirium tremens and suggested the trade.  What's a feller to do?  You know they's scarce as hen's teeth in these parts.  Had to walk all the way home.  Cheers, Bookie

Gentlemen ... Just took order of the book and DVD.  WOW ... What a trip !!!

I don't know if any of you have, and/or have ever read, Seybolt's book from Dixie but this answers more than all the questions I was left with after I went through Seybolt's book.  Although you produce the same type of machine as a finished product, this project seems a lot simpler, it is very well illustrated and thoroughly explained.  It gives options on building some parts so you aren't restricted to just one plan of how to get things to work.   It even list which parts need to be specifically made from hardwoods, etc., which for me is something I most definitely need since I don't know too much about which woods will stand up best to which type of use/abuse.

I'm not criticizing Seybolt's book; I'm simply pointing out that Steve and Alan's creation is far more detailed and better explained.  If I can read and understand technical stuff like this and absorb it all it don't leave much of anybody else who can't, IMO.

The DVD gives a great demonstration of both the boring/reaming bench in operation as well as the rifling bench, and the results of using both are shown right there in living color and great detail.

I think the meager funds they charge for this package is mere peanuts for what you get get for the money.

Lastly, I suggest the only way to go is getting the DVD and book both.  If you're in to this sort of thing you won't regret the purchase.   ;D

Thanks for the opportunity to post my critique, as it is an honest one.   ;)

Many of them cried; "Me no Alamo - Me no Goliad", and for most of them these were the last words they spoke.

The little bore/reamer is completed to the point that it can be used by pushing the barrel into the bit.  I will be adding posts & lever in a few days to esasier propell the carriage, but the basic bench is done.  Hope you can understand all my scribblings.  Cheers, Bookie
