Compliments of Whisker:
A Merwyn Carey, American Firearms Makers [Crowell, 1953], p.17
"George Call, 1775-80, shop located at Lancaster, PA, made flintlock KY rifles"
as you may know I did a book on Lancaster Co gunsmiths
not only did I not run into such a person BUT
[1] not in Sam Dyke, The Pennsylvania Rifle
[which really is only on Lancaster altho none of photos are of Lancaster guns]
[2] not located in PA Archives tax lists
also not in American Archives list of Lancaster Co arms makers
[3] not in any Lancaster Co tax lists of that era I used
[4] not on list of Lancaster Co gunsmiths of that era in
[a] Conspiracy of Pontiac by Francis Parkman
not on list of gunsmiths petitioning Congress right after Rev War
5] not on lists of William Henry's contractors during Rev War
[WH was 2nd US arms procurer, served nearly whole of Rev War, contracted w/ many gunsmiths to make arms for patriot cause
What is most odd by far-- truly strange-- is the fact that Sellers copied every name mindlessly, repeating every error of past and adding some of his own, did not cite Carey on Call, his alleged location, or dates. I don't know who dug out Call first, Carey or Gluckman + Satterlee.
