Rear sight question for D. Taylor
« on: April 22, 2011, 02:41:35 AM »
Sir,
Would you mind reposting the article you had on the shallow "v" rear sight you use?  I remember seeing the picture but haven't been able to locate it in the archives.

Thanks in advance.

Glenn, search Daryl's posts, he's the English express sight nut of the family & I believe he has several posts w/pix of his favorite sights.

Taylor's new sight works very well indeed. It's the copy of an original Hawken rear sight - full buckhorn, heavy sides and used as an aperture.  Level with the top endge, gave Taylor a zero of around 240 yards for his new .62 cal. Hawken. More testing is needed.

Daryl, I've been studying Taylor's new Hawken sight & it has real merit.  I'm going to explore that type sight on my new Rice 58 cal barrel for my flint Hawken rifle.  I have a couple cast Hawken rear sight blanks from Track & I'm going to weld one up, shape it, then drill & cut the appropriate hole & slot.  Should look good & with some experimenting will give me a nice multiple range sight.
