Mortimer Target Rifle?

Hello all,
I'm looking at a heavy barreedl target rifle, and the lock is stamped MORTIMER. The gun is a typical 19th century form Octagonal barrel, likely around .45. Half stock is tiger maple with small cheekpiece. It has a brass patchbox, butt plate and trigger guard. Single trigger. The trigger guard has a " horn " that faces toward the muzzle. Finish is basically white...no sign of blueing or browning. The issue I am grappling with is that it is a flintlock? Everything tells me it should be caplock. I haven't taken it apart, but I will likely do this. The MORTIMER lock has a slide safety, which I'm told was a mortimer trait. My guess is English? However, am I correct in being suspect of the flintlock?
Anyone with any knowledge of this gun?
Let me know ASAP so I can make a decision...

You may be right. However,  I associate maple stocks with American made guns and believe that the name on the lock rarely identifies the gunmaker. It well could have been a reconverted to flintlock gun for many unknown reasons. Not sure what "white " means?

By "white" I mean it is not blued or browned, but is plain steel with a bit of patina.
Yes...the tiger maple is enigmatic too. The guns is likely around $ 350, so I don't think I can go terribly wrong, but I like to know more about what I'm buying.
