can they be diluted with rubbing alcohol?

I would use denatured alcohol.

I use denatured because rubbing alcohol sometimes has even worse additives..... Grain alcohol would be best

Rubbing alcohol has a lot of water in in. It will raise your grain. Stick to wood alc. or if you can get it 200 proof Grain alc.
but there are better uses for that.

I use denatured all the time. I normally stain every stock once with a very thin coat to make scratches show up.

I also use denatured alchol. I was told rubbing alchol has a lot of water in it. Bob
