1825-27 "Public Property" Powder Flask
« on: June 15, 2011, 04:06:34 PM »
This flask was made under contract with James Baker of Philadelphia for the US Army in 1825-1827 .  2000 were ordered and delivered in 1827.  They were
made in Europe and shipped to the U.S.
The flask is made of heavy brass/copper like the 1843 N.P. Ames USN Flask.
The top/spout on this flask has been replaced with an 1857-1870 American
Flask & Cap Co. top that screws off to refill.  Either the original was damaged or
the owner wanted a flask that was easier to refill.   The flask was ordered with
the Public Property markings because previous unmarked flasks had a tendency
to disappear from the army for personal use.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.
