Flintlock patent breech
« on: July 10, 2011, 04:15:39 AM »
My rifles have entered the creation pipeline. I have work distributed among several competent craftsmen, some of whom are unfamiliar with flintlocks.

Where can I access machining or inspection dimensions of a flintlock patent breech for a 1.25-inch barrel? If such inspection drawings are unavailable, where can I acquire such a breech? The purpose is to furnish a gunsmith-machinist with information to breech two barrel blanks. While he is a superior workman, he is unfamiliar with flintlock breeching.

Were the drawings and/or sample breech to not be tip up-and-off like Hawken slant patent breeches, would a competent gunsmith-machinist be able to use his imagination (having viewed photographs of such a two-piece breech system) to incorporate the break off with the flintlock breeches he'll make for me?
