Wood plane for stockers

From a friend of mine, knew I was looking for sucha tool. I think this must be an antique auction or something. But what a cool tool, eh.

A great gunstocker’s plane by C.SMITH (in AWP); with
       exquisite detailing at the throat and wedge, this

       little guy is just 7” long, and looks to be unused;

       no owner’s marks, some layout lines still visible,

       this is such a fine little plane that it needs to be

       seen in person to appreciate; a ca.1825 manufacture:

       

          

Note the use of quarter sawn wood, fellers, for stability's sake.

I see those things in antique stores all over Maine. If I just knew what I was looking at I might could get some real bargins.

It ain't mine, I am just posting the pics.

I would use one with a 5/8 diameter for my inletting, if I had one. So I am stuck using a Bridgeport at the moment, until I can find or make one of these.

Knowing how you work Tom I'd say you probably have a detailed drawing of that puppy just waiting to be built when you find just the right piece of wood.   You should see some of the work he is posting on the engraving forums....whoooooweeee.

Clay is getting up in years--Ain't we all!-- but I don't think he was working in 1825.
