Bart, that is one fine looking rifle!  Tell us a little bit about it, like what you used to get that beautiful mellow finish on the wood and the metal.  Did you make that furniture and patchbox yourself?

Hello, Thanks for the compliments. For this rifle, I used a straight, Douglas barrel, 13/16Th's across the flats; cut to 38", 1:66" twist, in .45 caliber. The length of pull is 13 1/2". Davis-double set triggers, the owner supplied the trigger guard, buttplate and patchbox. However, I did make the muzzle cap, side-plate, ramrod pipes, underlugs, sights and some of the screws.

As for the stock, just a nice piece of sugar maple. After the final shaping, the wood was scraped and burnished. I use a combination of Trans-Tint aniline dyes for color, and finished up with handrubbed boiled linseed oil. The barrel and hardware were slowly rusted in a damp box.

Bart; I would be proud to own that rifle any day or one similar. The wood finish, the metal finish outstanding and workmanship. The highlight for me is the engraved patchbox. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. Turkeyfooter.

Beautiful rifle!  What does the lock say after "I was free born"...?  I cant make it out.

Hi James, no problem with the lock issue. We would just flip it over and then you would have it, LOL !! Thanks for the compliment. The lock plate reads " I Was Free Born Act 22:28".
