What would be some good books on gun building for a beginner to read? Maybe some on varrious styles as well.
Thanks, Mike
Everyone has a different opinion about gun building books.
Watching "The Gunsmith of Williamsburg" video can be inspiring.
There are some of people assembling kits too I think from various sources.
Chuck Dixon's book is pretty good.
There are others.
If you can find a
KNOWLEDGEABLE maker in your area this can be a great help or a Historical Gunmakers Guild etc.
History and styles of rifles...
Kauffman's book
http://www.amazon.com/Pennsylvania-Kentucky-Henry-J-Kauffman/dp/188329455XKindig's "Kentucky Rifle in its Golden Age".
Anything else published by Shumway:
"Longrifle Articles" and "Long Rifles of Note" might be a good place to start.
"Rifles of Colonial America I & II is a must have too.
There is a long list that Shumway published some are pretty rare now, some still in print. But if they go out of print the prices can get very high so buy before the supply dries up. Especially RCA I&II
Kentucky Rifles and Pistols 1750-1850.

Dillons book is dated as is Clines but it still gives background.
