Yellow Colored Solder

I'm not sure where to put this, but I thought you guys here may have seen something like this while making rifles.  Has anyone come across a soft solder that has a yellow (or brass) color?  I was thinking that a soft yellow solder would come in handy on several levels.  I know that there is a brass colored silver solder, but you have to get the metal (brass) so hot that it comes closer to brazing rather than soldering.  Thanks.

You should be able to get a gold solder from a good jewelers supply house. It may be somewhat expensive these days due to the cost of gold, but it works well in mending brass.

10 carat gold matches old brass pretty well for color, but it doesn't tarnash worth a darn, so can be a problem there.
About the only way around it is to make the solder line as thin as possible, or have it hidden if possible.

Gold at $1820 per ounce takes all the fun out of playing with it!!!

Yes John, the gold solder is expensive, and the fact that is won't tarnish isn't a plus either.  I just thought that there might be a brass colored soft solder (that tarnishes) floating around out there, but I guess it hasn't been invented yet.  Hmm, now if I could just figure out how to do it I bet it would be a good seller!

Brass colored solder would be a great invention, like a magnet for aluminum would be handy, too.

There is really no solder I know of that matches brass well. As mentioned above, keep the joint to a minimum, and don't let your brass tarnish.

There are some low temp brazes for musical instruments that  are a pretty good match. trumpets and saxophones, etc all get soldered.

Harris company makes a low temp brazing rod called Safety Silv 25 (I think) may be called Stay Silv 25.  It has a high copper content and looks like a brass braze.  I think it flows around 1400 f.

My wife used to do stained glass work and there were several chemicals available to turn solder different colors. You might want to check stained glass supply places.

THUNDERBIRD JEWELERS SUPPLY COMPANY in Gallop, NM sell's a brass colored solder and a Red Brass solder, or at least they used too, as I have bought it from them!  It comes in wire or stick form.
