An eastern style buffalo horn......
« on: September 23, 2011, 09:02:23 AM »
Still dealing with some ongoing health problems but I Finally! got some work done.......
Here's an eastern style buffalo horn I recently finished. It has a bit of a double curve (unusual with buffalo but not unknown) and it came out nice and smooth (no "strings") along with some nice color variation to boot.(and yes despite being a bit odd for buffalo, it is definitely buffalo because it came with a bit of the skull and hair still attached).....
The tip was worn down and was thus quite fat so to make it easier to prime with this one I added a mule deer antler tip..........surface finish is filed and scraped only - pine end plug with an iron strap staple.

It was inspired by this original eastern horn...

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Glad you're getting back on your feet a little Chuck, but dang!

I've had a pair of buffalo horns rattling around for over a year waiting for me to do something with them.  They've been idle because they were a gift and I've never particularly liked any horns I've seen to date.

Yours is the dawn of a new day for me, but you sure could have picked a better time to post it!  Now I'm anxious to get to work, but just about every hunting season known to man is open right now.  Kinda like time and money- You might have one or the other, but it's rare to have both.

Great work, in spite of my gripes!   ;D

Chuck, your work is always so neat it seriously makes me want to change the time and location of my "persona". Outstanding work as usual.  Sorry to hear about the health problems.

I dont normally pay much attention to buffalo horns. to me they all look the same BUT this one is a EYECATCHER.  GREAT WORK :)

Wow, nice work Chuck! Buffalo horns can be as cantankerous as the beast itself!
